Deus Ex Machina
11th-Apr-2006 05:50 pm
title: Deus Ex Machina
rating: PG
disclaimer: This is a derivative work and no profit is being made.
notes: Spoilers for the pilot and The Journey Home; warnings for very mild implied Sam/Dean that you could really just ignore if you want. I wrote this after considering the prominence of the Impala in both the show and in the fic, and I noted that I hadn't read any Metallicar POV. I sought to rectify the situation immediately. Also, I'm looking for a beta, if anyone is interested.
sequel: Beside the Machinery, This
length: 550

The car doesn't know or understand very much at all.Collapse )

I love the cars POV. You should write a whole series on this. Pure brilliance this is.

I would love to host a series like this on my fan fic website. If you're interested let me know.

oh, that's fantastic! I don't think I've ever seen a non-human POV done this well, and it's just—it's sad, and funny, and really intriguing. Special love for the car's understanding of English, and the drivening, because I am a mad linguistics dork like that. And oh! of course the car would think of them as parts, as extensions of itself, and of course it thinks they're broken, because they are, poor boys.

I love this with a ridiculous glee. Thank you so much for writing it!

You're welcome. *beams*

I totally had to emphasis "driven" like that because I wanted to draw attention to the word in both the action/moving/driving sense but also in the motivation/action sense. :)

And yay for ridiculous glee. ♥

It's starting to remember names like Black Dog and Back in Black and Road to Nowhere and cakehole, although it's not certain what they all mean exactly.

Heee, sweet. :)

And I like your icon. :)

What a mechanical way of thinking! I can see how everything can be "parts," though when the car thinks about the stuff in the trunk, I couldn't help but think of action figures and their accessories. :)
20th-Apr-2006 10:16 pm (UTC)
LOL, action figures. I can see that. :)

I was trying to present the impala as kind of like a child, or someone very innocent who doesn't understand things but gets it when everything's just right.

Thanks. ♥

and it can vaguely remember a mary part but it's not sure if that was just a test or not. It knows it has a sam part, although it doesn't know if the sam part was broken or if they just couldn't get a replacement in from somewhere so the john and dean parts somehow managed without. It doesn't like managing without.

How did it take me so long to read this? Dude. Dude. Your voice here is perfect, and I know that can't be easy because you're writing at the car. If my car could talk, I think that it would think something rather similar, and I appreciate all of the car terminology in application to the Winchesters, especially it's understanding of the people inside it as parts.

Brilliant, and like nothing else I've ever read. It's amazing.

And oh look, I've just put you on your second page of comments! Maybe that's why it took me so long to reply. Congratulations!

Awesome! I love! Totally interesting concept and it's really cute to hear the car talk about the john part and the dean part and the sam part. *grin*

I wandered to your fanfic journal via spnfic_podcast and I'm blown away by this amazing piece! What a clever idea for the POV. I absolutely love it.

I was wondering if anyone from the podcast has contacted you about reading this. I'm still in the process of learning how to record, but if I can get the hang of it and no one has claimed your story, may I record a reading of it to submit? I think it would be really cool to add Metallicar's voice :)

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

So, I'm technically on hiatus, but I couldn't resist commenting and I didn't want you to feel like I was adverse to the idea, which I most certainly am not. ^^

Yes yes yes! Please do! I'm away from my normal computer and my internet access is very sporadic, so don't worry if you don't hear from me until the 20th.
