A Supernatural General Anthology (Vol. I/II) / Nominations Post
12th-Jan-2007 07:57 pm
So, this is your official nominations post. If there is a general fic you would like to see included in the upcoming Supernatural General Anthology, this would be the place to pimp it.

That's it. Just give me a list of stories you'd like to see in print, and I'll do the rest.

Some Guidelines:
  • longish, plotty and/or unconventional fics = ftw.
  • general = no ships.
  • please include links.

Thank you. :)

Pretty much anything by big_pink. Especially Old Rebel Yeller (civil war re-enactors and a possessed dog) and Red (creepy-as-hell Red Riding Hood retelling with a spectacular Wolf).

Long, well-written, very plotty and unlike any other fics I've seen anywhere. *g*

I've heard most excellent things but I haven't actually had a change to read yet - thank you so much for the link. :DD
13th-Jan-2007 01:33 am (UTC)
assuming you get the authors' permission

anything by stele3

And I'd second Red too.

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely check it out. :)

You're welcome to use any of my gen stories if you like, zomg. And I nominate any gen story on my recs list. Where, that's not entirely helpful, sorry. BUT I CANNA CHOOSE!
13th-Jan-2007 01:41 am (UTC)
OKAY HOPE. I'm going to have to trudge through them all now. *EMO*

heeee, thanks for a long list. :)

Hi. I just made a post, but am not sure it went through. Had to try twice, due to an LJ error. It had five recs. I don't see a reply, so perhaps I should try again?

Anything by eighth_horizon (aka gekizetsu):

Here's the listing of all her fic.

Every single thing she writes is fabulous, but if you're particularly looking for longer fics, I'd recommend:
The Month of Open Doors Trilogy
Disinterment (which is part of the larger Salvation 'Verse, with any number of terrific gen fics)
Crossing the Line
Forty Bucks and Guns in the Morning
... Oh lord, I could go on and on and on. She's a freakin' National Treasure! :D

That icon of yours always makes me giggle. :)

And thanks for the links! :D

Any gen by ignipes! Especially Never Summer. VERY long. VERY plotty.

Parts of Speech by mona1347

Perfect- thanks. :D

Another anthology! *is excited*

Some gen favorites that I read over and over:

The Thousand Ways to Bleed (also here) by halcyon_shift

Beach Blanket Poltergeist by hansbekhart (Multiple parts, all under this tag.)

It doesn't mean you can explain the ocean by rageprufrock

Reap the Wild Wind by maygra (Later parts of the 'verse are slash, but this one's gen. It's also long enough that I don't think it qualifies for the -ish; it's pretty much just straight long.)

I'm sure there are more that are slipping my mind at the moment, but those were the first four that occurred to me.
13th-Jan-2007 04:10 am (UTC)
Thanks for the links!

And hansbekhart has already given me permission to include her story. :)

Okay- so this got long. *g*

This is partly a list of fics I had in mind for when I was putting together my anthology and partly fics that I've found since then that were interesting and on my to-read list (that I've now read).

And um, I don't think I've left feedback on most of them *hides*, which is not very nice of me, but trust me, they're all great stories! And if I have this list out, maybe it'll inspire me to get my butt in gear and give feedback.

There's some more I'm sure I'm forgetting but hopefully this'll give you someplace to start. ;)

Ooh- and I'd like to second eighth_horizon's Disinterment, or really any of her fic in the Salvation 'verse.

Plotty fics:

Winter Light

The Paradox of Living

Alone I Fear The Tide

Your Ocean Refuses No River

Each In Falling

We, Who Are the Merciful

Deadhead Sticker on a Cadillac

Every Man Has His Faults

Hickory Hill

Sing to the Sea

Cool one-shots/standalones:

Salvation is for Sinners

It's My Birthday, Too, Yeah

Ain't Scared of Lightning

Exeunt the Flesh Mob

How to Save a Life

There'll Be Peace When You Are Done

A Life Less Ordinary

Fistfuls of Rain

What Love Is

Resistance Training

And one last thing... Link to the post when I asked for stories..

This is so perfect, thanks. :DD

And yay for authors I haven't read before!

thanks. :D

everything by whereupon is fabulous; if you're looking for long and plotty Each In Falling is really great.

same with onelittlesleep; But I Never Could Sharpen No Blade Quite The Way He Say is a personal favorite of mine.

apocalypsos also has quite a few; I particularly like The Days Don't End Here, My Friend and Some Sounds You'll Sleep Through, although the first one's got some het and I guess neither of them are all that long.

and I'd recommed untitled (a stanford fic), but I'm guessing you've got the permissions on that one covered :)
13th-Jan-2007 04:43 am (UTC)
Yay, thanks for these recommendations. :D

and yeah, I think that one's covered. ;)

Thank you kindly!

traveller's Double Dutch is longish, plotty, and just damned cool.

I've got a ton of SPN recs, mostly gen or het, here.

I hope you won't consider it too egotistical if I put forward a few of my own stories. They're all gen; three are humorous and one is very serious and angsty. I thought you might appreciate some short, light-hearted stories amongst the longer ones.

In My Time of Dying

Fix You

Anything by Minkmix?

13th-Jan-2007 01:21 pm (UTC)
dodger_winslow writes great family-based SPN, especially Freaks and Monsters, Don't Ask and her Seasons (which is not finished yet, dammit! but close to) :)

All that has been pointed up above, too :)
13th-Jan-2007 06:08 pm (UTC)
Couple recs for you, though not all are long and/or plotty, but I'm assuming you are going to include some short stories as well to break things up a bit. Also, I think it'd be nice to see some lesser-known or less-frequently-recommended writers who've done excellent work represented.

Nice Boy by janissa11

Down Like Water by kestrelsan

No Such Thing As Normal by Lenore

Fistful of Rain by marinarusalka

The Farther You Run by dotfic

Don't Ask, Don't Tell by dodger_winslow

A Mount Rushmore for Assassins by tripoli
